I spent the weekend visiting my bestie at URI.  Nikki lives in a forced triple with a connecting bathroom to another suite.  One of her roommates went home for the weekend so I slept in her bed.  We didn't speak much; she left shortly after my arrival.  Nikki's other roommate, Mariah, is the most adorable girl ever.  Mariah is petite and sassy, very stylish and fun.  Mariah had her friend Adam visiting from NJ this weekend.  The poor kid was forced to sleep on a mattress on the floor, which he said he might as well have not bothered with.  Sarah, the girls' friend from down the hall, reminds me a lot of my own friend from school, Marisa.  Sarah was also petite, but friendly, outgoing and positively hilarious.
My drive Friday afternoon took a little longer than anticipated due to traffic so we were not able to go to the bookstore and buy a sweatshirt, as planned.  We all hung out and waited for Adam to arrive.  We then piled into my car (Poor Adam squished in the back with his knees practically folded up to his chest and poor Mariah squished in the middle in the backseat).  It was practically a sing-along car ride, Sarah bursting into song every chance she got.  We arrived at the mall in time for an impromptu performance of A Christmas Carole by a local theater group in Old Navy.  That was after a girl decided to commit suicide by crossing the intersection when I had the green light.  We stopped for dinner and began shopping.  I didn't find anything for my friend's birthday (slightly disappointment) and I found a top I liked but couldn't think of where I would wear it (slightly regret).  When the mall closed, we found out that Urban Outfitters was open for an additional hour after the mall so we set out to find it.  It was tucked away, literally only three or four blocks down the street, but surrounded by narrow, twisting streets.  We found a book about rap lyrics and I wished for an iPhone for about 0.5 seconds just so I could purchase a super cute phone case (mint with gold studs).  We drove home from the mall, made a stop for free coffee at Cumberland Farms and we all sat around talking in the dorm for a few hours.  We were visited by a few of the girls' drunken and/or high male neighbors, including one who looked EXACTLY like Harry Styles (down to the slouchy hat and hands awkwardly shoved into his pockets).  Eventually we all crawled into bed and turned on The Blind Side.  I don't think I made it through Sandra Bullock's introduction about Joe Theismann and Lawrence Taylor before I passed out.
We all woke up around 11:30 the next morning, but didn't actually move until almost an hour later.  Nikki and Mariah have two somewhat scary suite-mates who insist that both bathroom doors remain unlocked.  I was too scared to use the bathroom, out of fear of being yelled at.  So I waited until they left for the day before going in.  We then made our way to the top of campus to a little place called Bagelz.  Their bagels are a magical experience, I highly recommend them.  We then spent the afternoon walking around campus, since the weather was PERFECT for a fall day: sunny, slight breeze and temperature in the mid-fifties.

We stopped to observe a Quidditch game - I swear they were making up rules as they went, and went shopping at a few local stores.  I bought a URI Hockey t-shirt - regardless of the fact that I don't actually watch hockey, and a pretty blue URI hoodie.  We made our way off campus to a used bookstore down the street.  I knew as soon as I walked through the door that I was meant to find this place.  The smell of old paper was inviting and warm.  There were bookshelves stacked to the ceiling, complete with my favorite - the rolling ladder - a library must.  I fell in love with a section set off to the side that had hardcover classics with ornate, detailed covers.  There was everything from Aesop to Poe to Austen to Steinbeck.  I felt like a massive nerd and Adam was totally judging Nikki and I for squealing over old books, but I didn't care.  It felt like home; I could have spent hours in that place.  I have decided it is going to become part of a ritual every time I visit Nikki.
I couldn't have asked for a better two days or nicer people to have spent it with.  I always worry that people won't like me or we won't have anything to talk about.  The conversation was never forced though and we had a lot of laughs.  A huge thank you to Nikki and Mariah for letting me stay with them!
I drove home in the late afternoon in time for my family and I to make a trip to the mall.  I helped my mom pick out some of my Christmas presents and my sister choose some dress pants and heels for her upcoming music concerts.  This morning I woke up to cinnamon rolls and pumpkin spice coffee, before my mom and sister headed off to line up for the parade (my sister's in the high school marching band).  I had the afternoon to myself so instead of studying for my Environmental Geology exam on Tuesday, I made hot chocolate and watched the Patriots/Bills game.
Happy Veterans' Day and thank you to all who have served or are currently serving!  Hope you all had a lovely weekend!
