March Favorites
I'm a little behind the ball this month, but it's because graduation is approaching oh-so-quickly!! I mean, guys, there's thirty-nine days until I graduate! Okay, enough chit-chat. Favorites for the past month...here we goooooooo!
MUSIC OF THE MONTH:
1. "Rockstar" by A Great Big World
Glee did a cover of this featuring Adam Lambert and that cover, dear friends, was right on point. I've been jamming to the original all month but the cover has been on repeat more than once in the last week. I'm loving AGBW for the past couple months and I'm excited to explore more of their music.
2. "Boomerang" by The Summer Set
3. "Maybe Tonight" by The Summer Set
#2 and #3 are by the same artist. The lyrics from Boomerang ("If I was Jay-Z, you'd be my Beyonce...") were stuck in my head for ages! Once I realized who the song was by, I dug through my iTunes and figured out I had spent all last summer listening to their other song, "Someone Like You". I was intrigued and listened to all of their songs in one sitting. Honorable mention goes to "Lightning In A Bottle". Think Hot Chelle Rae meets Fun with an adorable, tiny male lead singer. Definitely will be listening to them ALL summer with the windows down and my sunnies on!
4. "Be Okay" by Oh Honey
I have no idea how I didn't know this song existed before the episode of Glee aired. I'm not as big of a Gleek as I used to be, but just like the radio and internet, television is a great medium to expose you to new music. This song is the definition of summertime.
In case you haven't noticed the theme yet, I'm kind of sick of winter. I'm ready for summer! Sunshine, loud music, sunglasses, the smell of sunscreen, staying out all night...and NO SNOW!!!
FOODIE FAVES:
1. Dried apricots - I don't love dried fruit but something about dried apricots is perfect. They give me that little hit that my inner sugar-bug craves, without the crazy fat and calories of my usual evening ice cream.
2. Vanilla almond milk - I had never tried almond milk and I find the plain is too boring except in coffee. VANILLA almond milk in coffee is PERFECTION. Trying to cut back on my sugar and cream consumption in my coffee. It's still not great, but hey, I'm trying.
3. Twinings Irish Breakfast Tea - Not a food, I know. I'm not supposed to drink too much coffee since my surgery for my ulcer, but I've been very naughty lately (an iced coffee almost every day!). I usually have a cup of Sleepytime tea when I know I will have trouble falling asleep (Insomniacs unite!). However, a cup of this when I'm studying has been hitting the spot.
MISCELLANEOUS MUST-HAVES:
1. "Translations" by Brian Friel - I had to read this play for my Irish Literature class. I ended up finding it fascinating and loving every line, surprisingly enough. I have my own theory about the ending; I think it's all a conspiracy even though it seems a bit far-fetched.
2. A Stolen Life: A Memoir by Jaycee Dugard - I finished this one a couple months ago and forgot to mention it for some reason. It's a memoir by Jaycee Dugard, a girl who was kidnapped and held captive for eighteen years. In that time she was mentally, physically and sexually abused; she gave birth to her first (of two) daughter shortly after her thirteenth birthday. It's a horrific tale and this is definitely not a book for the faint of heart; it's written in Jaycee's voice and vernacular rather than a ghost writer, which brings a personal and unique quality to it.
3. Grimm (NBC) - The writers of Grimm are starting to get back into the swing of things. The show is never boring, per-say. The episodes can be repetitive and a little superficial at times. That being said, the writers are kicking butt! The latest few episodes have been awesome and I can hardly wait for more.
4. Essie's Apricot Cuticle Oil - I dab a tiny bit on each nail bed before I start getting ready for bed. I've seen quite a bit of improvement, especially since it's been so dry here in MA lately.
Hope you all had a fantastic month! More posts to come soon after I survive two papers, haha. Any new music or books you recommend?
