Hello October

Here's the latest update for you folks who are interested:

I've officially been promoted to acting manager for the holiday season, beginning the end of the month.  I'm excited to dip my toes in the pool, to get a feel for if this is something I would actually enjoy pursuing at some point.  So far the response from my fellow associates and the management team has been extremely positive and encouraging; I'm looking forward to this upcoming, CRAZY, rapidly approaching holiday season.

My mom went to visit her good friend Laura, who is an exceptionally talented artist.  Laura's work is currently being featured in a gallery as "New Jersey's Emerging Artist at Monmouth Museum on the Brookdale Community College.  Here's a picture of Laura and some of her beautiful work!

Laura is the one who taught me my deep appreciation for tea and how to "tea time" -- relax for a moment in the afternoon, take a breath, and enjoy a cup of tea.  She used to do mostly paint, then went into a period where she did plant and flower prints.  Her work is hanging all over my mom's house and every time I see it, I smile.

While my mom was away, my sister and I were on our own.  For once, we were able to get along and we survived.  On Friday my sister had intended to accompany my mom to NJ but she suddenly got an offer to help her teacher work a fashion show in the city for Boston Fashion Week.  I had agreed to come in last minute to do my team a favor and was able to slip out in time to rush home to pick her up so my mom could leave.  We hit traffic and Dana ended up being an hour late to the event but considering how last minute it all was, I was surprised we even made it.
Saturday I had to work in the afternoon, but I drove forty-five minutes to drop my sister off at her boyfriend's and then it took an hour to get to work.  Work was busy, which meant I kept moving and didn't feel the seven-hour strain on my body.  I got home and suddenly had a craving for pancakes.  Dana hopped in the car and we ran to the twenty-four hour IHOP to fill our bellies.  When we returned, I discovered that while I was at work, my sister had cleaned the entire house!
Today I drove Dana to New Bedford to watch Chris (her boyfriend) perform in a marching band competition.  All the bands were impressive; Chris's band did a program of "The Wizard of Oz" but they featured songs from the Judy Garland movie, "The Wiz" and "Wicked"!  It was creative and attention-grabbing.  Chris threw his drum major mace high up in the air and caught it without hesitation.  Look at these cuties:

I'm really happy for both of them; obviously I would prefer that she didn't date until she turned thirty but alas, no such luck.  She's been going through a rough time lately after breaking up with her ex and having her friends all treat her poorly; Chris adores my sister and they seem genuinely happy together.  He's a sweet kid and I foresee this relationship lasting a while.

For now, that's all the news.  I hope to post some more soon so keep checking back!
