Double Standard

I'm a big stickler for fairness and I often get worked up when some people are treated unfairly, regardless that the matter is completely out of my control.  I like to think I'm a fairly open person; I have friends of various religions, sexuality, genders...
Most of my friends participate in Greek life at our school. One of my friends told me the other day about a friend of his named Tyler, who had received a bid for his fraternity.  It was a big deal because Tyler was the first transgender person at our school to have ever even received a bid from a Greek organization.  That was all well and good, but the only catch is that Tyler has to receive 100% vote from the entire fraternity in order for him to be accepted in.  This is not the case with any naturally born males, only Tyler.
It completely infuriates me that he is being subjected to this.  Tyler is a guy and if no other guys have to receive a 100% vote, why should he?!  We've gained so much ground on the homosexuality front, but yet we still cannot accept transgender and transsexual.  I'm ashamed of our species.
