Burned Out
To say I have been stressed lately would be a very large understatement.
Every time I get a chance to sit and catch my breath, I open my laptop to a new post and stop. I just couldn't find it in me to post this week. Lack of inspiration, general business, stress... I don't know what was holding me back but I feel I owe it to myself to post at least once today.
I've spent the past couple of days teaching myself some American Sign Language. I've always had an interest in learning and with my original major, I definitely would have needed to learn. However, since I'm switching majors, learning ASL is now superfluous. I still think it would be fun to take a class, so I may end up doing that next semester. I currently know the alphabet and a few basic words/phrases, like "mom", "dad", "dog", "cat", "Do you have a sister?" and "monster in-law" (courtesy of my friend with difficult in-laws). I'm struggling a little with numbers more than ten. It's something I will need to continue working on, but I find ASL relaxing yet still brain-stimulating.
I'm questioning if Courier is too hard to read and I'm growing bored with my background. Hopefully I will be able to post more later, but for now I need to write a five-page paper and studying for my last midterm. Happy Sunday!
- Three papers and four midterms in the span of two weeks
- Two homecoming celebrations - college and high school. Two of my friends were crowned Homecoming King and Queen at my alma mater. They're two exceptional students and truly good kids, and I am ecstatic that they're now an official couple as well as being a "royal" one.
- A few family battles
- A haunted maze fundraiser next weekend to prepare for. I help run the "Non-Scare Room", where younger kids or kids who are too scared to go into the maze can go. We have fortune tellers, crafts, games, snacks, etc. My mom usually runs it but she's going to a conference so I now am taking most of the responsibility for running it.
- Twenty-two hours of work this week alone
- A friend in the hospital, arguments and drama with good friends...the usual.
- Two creepy nights of walking to my car after work alone in pitch black with sighting of a suspicious van reported. Don't worry, I phoned a friend while I walked just in case something happened.
- Several freshman friends who are unhappy with their college choice. I of all people get how difficult the transition can be.
- Upcoming course selections looming. My school changed registration from midnight to 6am.
- And finally, a lost debit card to top it all off.
