Maine, Day 2: Beach, Zeb's and the Drive-In
Wednesday, 7/24/13
We were only able to spend an hour or so at the beach; dark clouds rolled in and the wind picked up almost as soon as we reached the sand. We got a little sun though before changing and getting ready for the day. We didn't have plans for the day other than the beach so we headed for North Conway Village, New Hampshire. Of course, the sun decided to come out (and stay out for the remainder of the day) the minute we got in the car.
Zeb's General Store is the must-visit tourist attraction for anyone passing through or anywhere near North Conway; it was a crowded store filled with old wood and antique fixtures. Zeb's had everything from chocolate-covered Oreos and homemade jam, to fragrant handmade bar soaps, to apple butter and fudge!
The nostalgia came flooding back as soon as I saw the old-fashioned candy and treats; I discovered I hate vanilla cream soda but I was overjoyed to find Razzles!
There weren't too many other interesting shops in town, but this one with the colorful glass in the front windows and fun pinwheel-animals was cheerful and inviting.
The drive back from North Conway wasn't terribly long but as someone who gets car sickness, driving UP and DOWN and UP and DOWN and UP and DOWN those hills in NH/ME can get to you! Luckily, the scenery was beautiful:
The drive-in movie theater was in Bridgton so we headed there shortly after it opened because we were worried we wouldn't get a decent place to park. We bought fries (with LOTS of ketchup) and settled ourselves in the car for a comedic double feature: Despicable Me 2 and Grown Ups 2!
The movies were both enjoyable; we laughed a lot and it was fun to be at the old-fashioned drive-in!
