Maine, Day 1: Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Tuesday, 7/23/13

My coworker and good friend Emily is sometimes my complete opposite; we had an intense argument about Adele the other day (I like her, but don't love her the way Emily does; I think Adele is somewhat of a one trick pony).  She spends far too much money on expensive makeup and other things, and she loves girly shows like Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars and One Tree Hill.  Her attitude is essentially that of Marie from Disney's Aristocats; quite literally if she were a cartoon, that white kitten is her!  She's stubborn and high-maintenance! We started working for Gap around the same time, but she worked in the Kids & Baby store across the hall so I didn't really know she existed at the time.

At the time, I had gained the mentality of my coworkers, that being that we the adult store were better than the children's store.  Our first store meeting post-merger almost two years ago we all sat staring at each other on opposite, segregated sides of the room, K&B versus Adult.  Emily likes to remind me of the time I saw her borrowing a ladder and supposedly gave her a dirty look!  Maybe I was a little judgmental; working at Gap during that time is not one of my fondest memories...

Most importantly, though we are a little different, we are best friends.  We have grown close over the past two years, joking and gossiping.  She is the one I blame for my addiction to Revenge and we text each other every Thursday night during Grey's Anatomy.  We cried together when Glee's Cory Monteith passed away and laugh hysterically when our coworker (and good friend) Zac says something ridiculous.  We loooooooove Disney, specifically Disney World.  She's a good person, loyal and kind.  We love to gossip, but ultimately I know I can trust her with my secrets and she's one of my closest friends.

Emily's family owns a camper/trailer in Maine on a lake where they spend most of their weekends in the summer.  Emily had originally invited our friends/coworkers Anna and Roselle, but they were unable to come.  So we set out for Maine on Tuesday, just the two of us...in the car...alone...for several hours.

It poured rain the entire drive there; we had stopped for Dunkies before heading out and listened to Taylor Swift's RED album on repeat for the whole drive.  We hit traffic and we took a wrong turn; that may sound minor but there are very few connecting roads up there.  We had to drive miles in order to double back over to our original road.

This sign is quite the local tourist attraction.  The sign does not indicate European cities and countries; they are towns in Maine!

Cute camper signs
This flag doesn't show Maine's most popular animal: LOBSTAHS!
We dumped the bags at the trailer and headed in to Bridgton to do some shopping:

I began running around with my camera like an idiot the second we got to Bridgton (I think I was mostly just happy to be out if the car) and Emily mocked me for being a tourist.  The town was extremely small, "quaint" if you will.  It had finally stopped raining so we were able to wander around for a while and peek in some adorable shops:

Frightening, no?

Bridgton was adorable and though small, it was perfectly sized to waste an afternoon.  Em and I hit Hannaford's for some groceries and headed back to the trailer to make macaroni and cheese (with peanut butter and Fluff sandwiches) and watch a movie marathon of A Cinderella Story, High School Musical and Grown-Ups.  We were exhausted and ready for bed by eight or so, but ended up staying awake to talk until almost two.  We fell asleep with our fingers crossed for better weather the next day...
