Hypotheticals

     One of my coworkers today asked me the best way to break up with a girl since this person had only ever had one other serious relationship and it hadn't ended amicably.  They said it was a hypothetical situation because they're currently content with their relationship.  Now, I'm certainly no expert when it comes to dating or love.  The only relationships I've ever had have ended with mutual breakups or I was the one ending it.
    So with my somewhat biased opinion and limited experience, I told them simply: "Hypothetically, don't be nice.  Don't sugarcoat it to soften the blow or spare yourself from her tears.  Don't use cliche lines or say merely what you think you should say.  Be kind, but above all be honest - with her, and with yourself.  Say whatever you want, but in the end it needs to be the truth."

    And they told me this was the best advice they'd ever gotten.  Today was a good day; I helped someone.
