What I Learned In School Today
My Developmental Psychology professor gave us a handout today that I found really interesting and somewhat profound. Let's say we reduce the entire population of the world from seven billion to one hundred people. If we shrunk the entire human population, maintaining all existing human ratios, here are those one hundred people:
Fifty-seven are Asian, twenty-one are European, fourteen are North, South and Central Americans and eight are African.
Fifty-two are female and forty-eight are male.
Seventy are non-white and thirty are white.
Eighty-nine are heterosexual and eleven are homosexual.
Six people possess fifty-nine percent of the wealth, and all six are from the USA.
One owns a computer.
One is near death and two are close to being born.
Eighty live in "substandard" housing (no electricity, no running water).
Fifty suffer from malnutrition.
One has a college education.
Seventy are unable to read.
Let that all just sink in for a minute. Food for thought, no?
