Horrified
I've always been a huge 'fraidy cat. I refuse to enter haunted houses and I have pepper spray, a window breaker and a high beam flashlight all on my keychain. I hate horror movies; I'm the type of girl who spends majority of the film covering her eyes or with a blanket over her head. I can deal with gore, blood, etc. I really don't like supernatural horror, like The Possession or Paranormal Activity. I once watched Halloween with all the lights on, in broad daylight... it was horrible. I hate the whole suspense of me telling the protagonist on the screen, "Don't go in the basement, don't go in the basement, don't go in the basement..." and then WHAM! Something gets the main character... I then resign myself to the next few nights sans sleep and I dig out my nightlight.
My best friend Paige somehow convinced me to watch American Horror Story. I think she sold me on the fact that she claimed it wasn't scary and just creepy. I was hesitant but she's my best friend so I figured I'd suck it up for an episode or two. I literally got so wrapped up in the show tonight that we ended up watching three and a half episodes before I realized I had already missed my self-set curfew for tonight. I experienced a feeling tonight that I had when watching Sherlock. Said feeling resulted in me staying up until 4am one morning to finish the entire series earlier this week. You know a book is good (or in this case, a television show), when you get the feeling I had: you can't stop. You suddenly have this overwhelming desire to keep watching or reading because you want to know, you have to know what happens next. You're so caught up in the story and characters that there's no possible way for you to walk away without the curiosity killing you.
The acting on this show is pretty impressive and convincing. I could feel myself getting tense and my heart beating faster during intense moments but I was never afraid (which is pretty good for me). The only way to truly describe this show is FREAKY. For those of you who watch the show, I must say Tate weirded me out in the first episode or two. Paige warned me that he grows on you as the series progresses and even though I'm only three episodes in, I'm already starting to fall in love with him. Violet totally reminds me of a girl I work with; the similarities in appearance and behavior are uncanny.
I don't know that I could watch this show alone or that I will be racing to turn my television on Wednesday nights for new episodes but for now, I'm satisfied with being surprisingly intrigued by this show.
